Nostr is a simple, open protocol that enables global, decentralized, and censorship-resistant social media. The name Nostr stands for "notes and other stuff transmitted by relays". The protocol is designed for simplicity and aims to create a censorship-resistant global social network. It is based on very simple and flexible event objects that are passed around as plain JSON and uses standard elliptic-curve cryptography for keys and signing. The only supported transport is websockets connections from clients to relays, which makes it easy to write clients and relays and promotes software diversity. Nostr is not a single, agreed-upon user interface, but rather a protocol upon which anyone can build. The protocol is great at drawing curious and burgeoning developers who can take the simple protocol and create their own app or service on top of it.
