Cryptography

Cryptography is the science of securing communication and data through mathematical techniques and algorithms, ensuring that information can only be accessed by the intended recipients. Originating from the Greek words "kryptos," meaning hidden, and "graphein," meaning to write, cryptography has been employed for thousands of years, from simple cipher systems used in ancient civilizations to complex algorithms that secure modern digital communications. At its core, cryptography serves multiple functions: it assures confidentiality by encrypting data so that unauthorized parties cannot understand it; it ensures integrity by verifying that the data has not been altered during transmission; it provides authentication by confirming the identity of the parties involved; and it enables non-repudiation, making it difficult for a sender to deny the authenticity of the message they sent. In contemporary society, cryptography is integral to the functioning of the Internet, online banking, e-commerce, and a plethora of other applications that require secure and private communications. With advancements in quantum computing and other technologies, cryptography continues to evolve to meet new challenges and threats.
